Plasma proteins

Plasma proteins  are proteins present in blood plasma. They serve many different functions, including transport of lipids, hormones, vitamins and minerals in activity and functioning of the immune system. Other blood proteins act as enzymes. It  is carried within red blood cells, rather than in the blood serum. The three major fractions of plasma proteins are known as Albumin, globulin, and Fibrinogen.  Albumin  is the most abundant class of plasma proteins  with highest electrophoretic mobility. It is soluble in water and is precipitated by fully saturated ammonium sulfate. Albumin is synthesized in the liver and consists of a single polypeptide chain of 610 amino acids having a molecular weight of 69,000.Plasma proteins help in maintaining the pH of the body. One of the most important functions of plasma proteins us to transport lipids and lipid-soluble substances in the body. Fatty acids and bilirubin are transported.
